Development and application of 3D-PTV measurements to lab-scale stirred vessel flows

In this work, guidelines for reliable 3D-PTV measurements of fluid flows in stirred vessels at the lab-scale have been developed. The flow water Re=12,000 a flat bottom cylindrical tank (T=180mm) with 6 blades Rushton turbine (c=D=T/3) has measured different camera frame rates (125 – 3600 fps) and tracer concentrations (0.001 0.010 px?2). best compromise between number data, tracking efficiency CPU time (206 frame-1, 39% efficiency, 0.026 min frame-1) obtained 125 fps 0.002 px?2. These results can be expressed terms normalized parameters ??0.5 p?2 scaled to experimental conditions. Savitzky–Golay filter, used enhance signal-to-noise ratio, optimized by testing values polynomial order (0–3) filter width (321 data points). A 2nd order, 11-points gave results, based on considerations regarding reduced Chi-squared velocity distributions. With conditions uncertainty positions was 255 ?m. Finally, un unbiased distribution decorrelation determined from autocorrelation functions along trajectories longer than impeller revolutions. This method could compare macro-mixing performance systems.
